Kutani Crane
A tribute to the past
The Kutani Crane porcelain series by Wedgwood (1971-1998) is a tribute to the Japanese art of porcelain. Kutani is the name of an area and village in Japan mentioned in connection with porcelain as early as 1655. Birds are popular motifs on Kutani porcelain. In particular, the crane, which in many Far Eastern cultures is a symbol of prosperity, longevity and happiness.
Wedgwood's stylish bone china series focuses on the crane, amid bamboo and colorful flowers, thus building a symbolic bridge between modernity and tradition.
